Manchester United will reject any offer for defender Chris Smalling in the summer according whispers from Old Trafford.

The 25-year old is reportedly a top summer target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

The England international has 12 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford and Wenger wants to test United's resolve to keep the defender with a reported £12m bid in the summer.

The Dutchman is reported to be keen on signing long term target, Borussia Dortmund defender, Mats Hummels and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is convinced United will let Smalling leave if they secure the signature of the Germany World Cup winner.

Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of the 24-year old and tried to sign him in 2010 before he joined the Red Devils from Fulham in a £10m deal.

However, sources from the club intimate that Smalling who has made 22 Premier League appearances, including 18 starts, in the Dutchman's first season in charge will not be sold.
